Evaluation question 3 final
The script for interview above in larger text..
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Mattie: Throughout the stages of research and planning and putting together both the video, digipaks and adverts we received several amounts of feedback from a variety of sources. This meant we could take the advice and work on improving all pieces of work.
What was the first piece of feedback you received?
Steph: Our first feedback was after we pitched ideas about what we planned to achieve and what genre of song we are going to use to create the identity of Intoxicated. We received mainly positive feedback from this but also received comments from our workmate as they seemed to be excited at the prospect of having a party video.
Were there any concerns about what you’d planned to do?
Steph: I received really positive comments from my advert and digipak, people liked the image I chose to use and thought that there was a clear running theme that could be distinguished. The only concern someone had was that they felt it may have been too plain but when I started designing an idea I didn’t want to overcrowd anything, i wanted to let the pattern and image be the focus.
Mattie: My digipak also received helpful feedback concerning the colour scheme that was completely changed in my final draft. I also received feedback concerning the how my media products suit the type of band. From the feedback on our draft ancillary texts we could really appreciate how important feedback is order to have a fantastic end media product.
Steph: There were a few concerns about how we would film the party scenes in order to create the illusion that 50+ people were present when actually there were only 8. Also the mise en scene had to look effective /realistic and this was stressed by teachers and peers after our pitch.
Mattie: A TV advertising campaign was brought to our attention from mentors and became inspiration for our music video. The feedback was extremely helpful because it allowed us to gather more inspiration and gain opinions from other people’s perspective; it also allowed us to know we are going in the right direction because we received mostly positive comments.
How was the draft video received?
Steph: We received feedback from students on our draft video, digipak/ adverts, and the main video. This was useful to us because students are the same age category that we are targeting. We received comments such as 'Good use of lighting'. Lighting was an important part of our video. The lighting had to be correct and look effective, due to us using a projector screen. We received other comments such as 'the creation of minimalistic party worked well. Is it just girls at your party/video shoot?' We didn't have as many people as we would've like at the filming. Therefore we had to use very few people in a small space. We previously found an advert that used this similar technique.
Mattie: another comment was that 'the artist could look more dressed up e.g red lipstick'. We understand the feedback however we do not agree with this because the style of the band is edgy and quite casual. This is seen throughout the video. Therefore it would give promote the fun/casual and edgy message we wanted.
Steph: Throughout the planning and making stages of creating a new music band we received feedback from our mentors again. After our draft was created myself, fellow producer Mattie along with our mentors agreed that the party scenes look to forced and almost looked like a separate video compared to the shots in front of the projector screen.
Mattie: We made the decision to get rid of all of them because the video started to look very amateur, which was not what we wanted Intoxicated to look like. We then made the decision to keep two of them in front of the screen because we didn’t want to completely scrap our idea, we think this decision completely changed our video for the better meaning it ties together more appropriately and looks more effective and professional.
Did you use any technologies such as twitter to gain feedback?
Steph: We have created a twitter feed for the band this was created in the hope that we could get a range of feedback from the large variety of people could be received by people using the social networking site. However gaining feedback by using this site was slightly restricting because only the people who followed 'Intoxicated' could actually comment or even see the work.
Mattie: We have also shared the video on Facebook in the hope of gaining some more feedback of what people think of the video and this would be valuable because of the age group we are friends with on twitter are around the target market we were aiming for.
Steph: I personally, received feedback for my ancillary texts through different methods. This included Twitter, Blog posts, Facebook and YouTube. Through using the internet we could gain feedback on all ancillary texts form peers, teachers and the public.
Overall, how do you feel about the feedback received?
We feel as though we have created a real cohesive media product that looks modern and right for our target audience of 16-25 year olds. We are happy with the outcome of each of our digipaks and advert and our joint end video. Overall the feedback we received from a variety of sources was the key to our success and we hope you enjoy our work..
